ART 404 - Asian Art

Three hours per week.

This course deals with the visual arts in China, Japan, India and other regions of Asia from their beginnings to the present. It introduces the religious and philosophical contexts of Buddhism, Hinduism, Jainism, Islam, Confucianism, Daoism, Shintoism, Christianity and other religions, and discusses the influence of Asian aesthetics on Western culture. The course will include lectures, seminars, field trips and the use of audio-visual materials.
