ENGL 394 - American Folklore

Three hours per week.

This course focuses on American folklore genres, including the folktale, legends and myths, riddles, proverbs, folk songs, speech play, festivals, customs, folk beliefs, and vernacular architecture. The folklore of various American ethnic groups, including Native Americans, African- Americans, and immigrants from various cultures, and the cultural exchanges among these diverse cultural groups, will be emphasized.
