HIST 386 - History of the Modern Middle East


3 Credits
Three hours per week.

This course begins with the creation of the modern Middle East after World War I, the anti-colonial movements, the emergence of independent nation-states and the beginning of the Arab-Israeli conflict. Also studied are the role of the U.S. in the region, the rise of political Islam, oil and its importance in Middle East economies, and culture in the form of music, film, and literature.
