Mission Statement

The primary mission of the Department of Family and Consumer Sciences is to prepare students with competencies and skills needed to cope with changes and new developments in goods and services; and to work with communities to implement programs to improve family life. In addition, the mission of the Department of Family and Consumer Sciences at Morgan State University is to enhance the quality of family life in the communities served by the University.

Family and Consumer Sciences address broad concepts focusing on family, individual, and community well-being.

Goals and Objectives

The Department of Family and Consumer Sciences seeks to develop students who are able to:

  1. Translate the fundamental concepts and principles of Family and Consumer Sciences into effective personal and family life.
  2. Exemplify a sense of social responsibility and the ability to function interdependently and perform family functions effectively.
  3. Demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary for professional competence.
  4. Address societal concerns and work with communities to implement programs to improve family life.
  5. Meet the certification requirements for Praxis I and II.

The Department will seek to meet the standards of requirements for accreditation to the American Association of Family and Consumer Sciences.
