Continuous course. This is a continuation of MUSC 172. The Diatonic common practice with emphasis on chromatic, dissonant harmony. The fourth semester examines the contemporary music language-set theory, twelve-tone, serial music. Introduction to Schenkerian analysis and other theoretical writings of the twentieth century.
