NURS 353 - Gerontology


2 credits
2 hours per week. 2 lecture hours.

This course examines the nurse’s role in promoting, maintaining, and restoring the health of aging adults. The psychological, sociological, and physiological factors that influence the health of aging adults are also explored. Emphasis is given to
biological changes that have implications for health and pathophysiological alterations. In addition, aging theories, health assessment of older adults, and nursing pharmacologic management of health disorders related to aging are presented.
Community, state, and federal health programs and services for the aged are also discussed.

Prerequisite(s) NURS 300  completed with a grade of “C” or higher
