POSC 385 - International Relations

3 credits
3 hours per week.

The purpose of this course is to introduce students to the study of international politics. It is designed to provide students with ideas about how to think about and understand events, trends, and patterns in interactions among states and other actors within the global political system. It is also intended to help students develop and express their own opinions regarding important political issues in the contemporary global political arena. In this context, we will seek to examine the major theories of international relations, i.e., what are the motivations underlying how states relate with each other, and the consequences or benefits to states and the international system. Other specific topics will include International Political Economy, Terrorism, Climate Change, Development, and Globalization to show how states’ relations impact these major issues. [Formerly “Introduction to International Relations”].
