SCOM 353 - Strategic Communication Not-For-Profits and Government


3 credits
3 hours per week.

This course is a survey study of the unique challenges of strategic communication for the not-for-profit and government sectors.  In the not-for-profit component, topics will inlcude fundraising, lobbying, working with volunteers and media relations. Students will gain practical experiences through contacts with community not-for-profit groups.  The government component examines the roles and uses of strategic communication by all levels of government. Topics will include working with the media, cross-branch lobbying, legal constraints and ethical issues.  Case studies will be used for analysis and review. [Formerly PRAA 353].
