SOWK 427 - Public Child Welfare in the Urban Environment


3 credits
3 hours per week.

Child Welfare in the Urban Environment is designed to introduce and familiarize students with child welfare and family support services from historical, theoretical, policy, and practice perspectives.  Child welfare services will be examined from micro, mezzo, and macro levels so that students will understand the relationship between societal values and the frameworks that guide the development and implementation of child welfare policies and programs. The course will study the child welfare service continuum, focusing on empowerment and strengths-based perspectives, and critically analyze child welfare policy and practice in urban populations. 

Prerequisite(s) SOWK 200  and SOWK 209  and SOWK 329  and SOWK 331   completed with grades of “C” or higher
