HIST 150 - Study Abroad: The African Diaspora 3 credits he course will examine the history and legacy of Pan Africanism, including its major developments, mainly through historiography, and the different perspectives and approaches used to construct the histories and travels in the African Diaspora. Central to the course is study abroad where students will experience new cultures and be able to interrogate the knowledge gained through historiography and the knowledge gained through experience. Interconnectedness and its limits will be a theme of the diasporic studies. New experiential knowledge of the host country’s geography, contemporary culture, economics, and politics will be emphasized. The course will also address academic skills and specific competencies in history: identifying the difference between primary and secondary sources; analyzing primary sources by situating them in their historical context; and the “doing” of history, learning the ethics of history and how to write a persuasive, academic argument.
