CICS 200 - Prior Learning Assessment Portfolio Development 2 credits 2 lecture hours.
In this course, students will learn how to develop a Prior Learning Assessment (PLA) Portfolio that demonstrates their mastery of college-level knowledge and skills gained through prior learning experiences, such as work experience, military training, or self-directed study. The course will provide students with coaching support as they gather evidence and develop their portfolios. This coaching support will include feedback on their progress, guidance on how to present evidence effectively, and assistance in aligning their prior learning with Morgan State’s academic standards.
It is important to note that completing this course does not automatically guarantee that students will receive credit for prior learning in Morgan State courses. After completing the PLA Portfolio course, students’ portfolios will be reviewed by subject matter experts who will determine if they have provided enough evidence to award prior learning credit for a specific course at Morgan State. The subject matter experts will assess each portfolio on a case-by-case basis, and the awarding of credit is not guaranteed.
By the end of this course, students will have developed a comprehensive PLA Portfolio that presents a clear and compelling case for the college-level knowledge and skills they have acquired through their prior learning experiences. This course will equip students with the tools and knowledge they need to succeed in the credit review process and potentially earn credit for prior learning in Morgan State courses.
