MENA 410 - Music of the Middle East and North Africa

3 credits
This course develops a critical approach to the music of the Middle East and North Africa. It will explore orientalism, tribalism, music in the religious experience, migrancy and the black African Diaspora. Students will become familiar with the major repertories and performance traditions, and the key instrumentalists and vocalists of the region and its Diasporas.
