FACS 479 - Family and Consumer Sciences Education Internship 12 credits This course examines issues related to classroom teaching in public schools and enables students to become reflective practitioners through involvement in the daily practices of classrooms and schools. By participating in student teaching, students will have the opportunity to experience how teachers plan, evaluate, and reflect on teaching. Students will comprehend the role of teachers and teachers’ work through direct observation and participation. Acquisition of the skills and knowledge associated with the art and science of teaching is one of the most interesting ventures among all other educational pursuits in our present society. Knowledge of subject matter and competency in applying this knowledge in teaching and learning situations are real demands on a successful teacher and are acquired only through training, study, and experience. To this end, the Interstate New Teacher Assessment and Support Consortium (INTASC) Standards, the Danielson Framework for Teaching, and the requirements outlined in the teacher performance assessment (edTPA) have become primary sources for the design of this program. Clinical experiences are provided for students to gain and show the application of knowledge, dispositions, and competencies as detailed in the INTASC standards, the Danielson framework, and edTPA. All education courses, general education, and supporting courses should be completeed before enrolling in this course.
