HIST 345 - Contemporary Issues in History: “Politics of Memory and Public History” 3 credits This course examines the uses of history, the privileging of some voices (“authority”) vis-à-vis others, and the social, cultural, and political impacts of these debates. It will focus on why historical preservation and representations become politicized – often polarizing – and what they reveal about the power of the past in modern identity-making
