BMED 522 - Medical Genetics 3 Credits
The course will give an overview of mechanisms underlying the development of genetic diseases. Topics include descriptions and examples of dominant, recessive, autosomal, and sex-linked inheritance patterns, as well as classification of genetic diseases in single-gene, chromosomal, and multifactorial disorders. Students will work in groups to discuss how identifying genes and variants in the genome, including gene mapping, makes it possible to understand how variations can lead to disease.
