This course examines the cultural, historical, and social communications dimensions of African-descended people in the African Diaspora, focusing on West Africa, South America, the Caribbean, and the United States. By exploring the music, dance, and language of people in the African diaspora, this course provides a rich tapestry of the internal dynamics, external influences, and historical developments within these societies and contributes to our understanding of the cultural identities of these various nations. The course should be crosslisted in the SGJC as JOUR 500.
