The School of Community Health and Policy provides undergraduate education and training to students currently in the areas of health education, nursing and nutritional sciences - three fields identified as having the highest needs for trained professional minorities. Graduates of all three programs have the unique advantage of obtaining specialized education and training in health disparities and community practice, skills that are in growing demand.

There are two departments in The School of Community Health and Policy: The Department of Nursing and the Department of Public and Allied Health.  Students may obtain undergraduate degrees in health education, nursing and nutritional sciences.

Mission

The Morgan State University School of Community Health and Policy’s mission is to develop a corps of health professionals committed to transforming urban communities by promoting health and reducing health inequities.

Vision

The vision of the School of Community Health and Policy is to be an integral part of the community, working to achieve optimal health.

Guiding Principles and Values

The guiding principles and values of the school are summarized in the acronym ACCESS. The letters represent Academic Excellence, Community Engagement, Collaboration, Experiential Learning, Social Justice/Health Equity, and Scholarship. These elements undergird all aspects of teaching, research, and service for the school.

Major Goals

  1. To provide highly effective educational experiences that are community-focused and incorporate experiential learning to prepare students for productive and meaningful careers in health education, nursing, and nutrtitional scienes.

  2. To conduct research and other evidence-based projects that serve as a major resource of new health-based knowledge, with emphasis on improving community health outcomes grounded in evidence-based practices.

  3. To serve communities and engage them through equitable partnerships for the development and implementation of collaborative strategies to eliminate health disparities.
