The Department of Public and Allied Health is an interdisciplinary department that houses two undergraduate degree programs: BS in Nutritional Science and BS in Health Education. It also houses graduate degrees in Public Health (Master of Public and Doctor of Public Health).
The mission of the department is to prepare its graduates for careers in health, as well as admission to graduate programs, and roles as leaders in their respective health fields. The department places particular emphasis on preparing graduates to operate and be knowledgeable of solutions within urban communities. The department is committed to producing effective practitioners, researchers, and leaders who are ethical, have excellent communication and critical thinking skills, and can work collaboratively to develop effective strategies to solve problems and promote health and well-being in communities.
Our faculty are engaged in projects and research that are community-informed, relevant, and community-based. They provide numerous opportunities for experiential learning and service learning, as our school is rooted in community. The department strives to meet the educational and professional preparation needs of all of our students so that they can be successful, innovative, and adaptable in the ever-changing health environment.
