Family and Consumer Studies General Track Curriculum Sequence

This curriculum guide is a tool for planning. Matriculated students and advisors should consult Degree Works before and after registration for classes each semester to track academic progress.
The General Family and Consumer Sciences track offers students courses from each curriculum area within the Department. The curriculum is designed to prepare students for career opportunities in schools, colleges, extension services, businesses, federal programs and child care. Students who desire to teach family and consumer sciences in Grades 7 through 12 or Early Childhood Education must pass Praxis I and II to become certified. The required courses for the General Family and Consumer Studies Track include:

Suggested Curriculum Sequence
First Year (Semester One): 15 Credits
First Year (Semester Two): 15 credits
Second Year (Semester One) 15 credits
Second Year (Semester Two): 16 Credits
Third Year (Semester One): 15 Credits
Third Year (Semester Two) 14 Credits
Fourth Year (Semester One) 15 Credits
Fourth Year (Semester Two) 15 Credits
TOTAL CREDITS 120
* denotes a department required supporting or major course which may fulfill a General Education Requirement and must be completed with a grade of “C” or higher
** SPCH 101 STRONGLY Recommended
*** FACS 232 STRONGLY Recommended
1 Students with a FACS General Track major may not use PSYC 101 to fulfill the SB General Education Requirement
