COSC 551 - Cybersecurity

With the everyday growing cybersecurity threats, it is of paramount importance to make our systems secure than ever. Most importantly, security is not defined for a specific domain but rather it plays a key role in all applications ranging from government to education, and health to name a few. There are various ways an intruder or adversary may attempt to explore our systems. It is worthwhile to study these threats/ attacks and the countermeasures against them. This course introduces students to the concepts of cybersecurity and develops the knowledge and skills needed to master the core concepts in cybersecurity. Topics covered include cryptography, network security protocols, including authentication protocols, firewall architecture, VPNs, TCP/IP, routing protocols, the DNS, software security, security of Web. threat of attacks that use viruses, worms, malicious software, rootkits, botnets, and countermeasures, as well as distributed denial of service attacks and spam countermeasures. The course also introduces concepts of wireless networks security.
