                | NURS 405 - Parent-Child Nursing (Maternity)4 credits
 10 hours per week.  2 lecture hours.    8 practicum hours.
 
 The course introduces the student to fundamentals of childbearing processes and evidence-based care for women and their families during the antepartum, intrapartum, and postpartum periods. Emphasis is placed on supporting normal physiologic processes through nursing care. Childbearing-related pathophysiology, ethical and practice debates will be addressed. This course also introduces the student to family-centered maternity nursing, with emphasis on family structure, transcultural aspects and developmental tasks. Risk factors and health promotion in client care situations will be analyzed during the prenatal, intrapartum, and postpartum periods. It is expected that the student will utilize evidence-based practices and the nursing process to synthesize principles that can be applied to the childbearing family in the low and high-risk categories.
 
 Prerequisite(s) NURS 300 , NURS 301 , NURS 310 , NURS 350  and NURS 351  completed with grades of “C” or higher.  NURS 305  can either be a Prerequisite completed with a grade of “C” or higher or a Corequisite.
 Co-Requisite(s) Students must also register for NURS 305  if it has not previously been completed with a grade of “C” or higher
