Family and Consumer Sciences, B.S.

Family and Consumer Sciences (FACS) is a  field of study  which encompasses a broad range of topics relating to personal and family well-being. It integrates various disciplines such as nutrition, parenting, human development, finance, textiles, and more. FACS aims to empower individuals and families with the skills and knowledge needed to make informed decisions that contribute to a high and positive  quality of life. It is crucial in promoting healthy relationships, managing resources effectively, and enhancing overall well-being

 

The Department of Family and Consumer Sciences offers a Bachelor of Science degree in Family and Consumer Sciences with tracks in Fashion Merchandising Family Science, and general FAmily and Consumer studies with a concentration in Family and consumer Sciences Education. The Department prepares students with the competencies and skills needed to address changes and new developments in consumer goods and services; conduct research; and work with communities to implement programs that improve family life.  Its mission is to imporve the quality and wellbeing of individual and family life in communities served by the University.

Family and Consumer Sciences embodies three purposes in its commitment to improving the quality of life for individuals and families:

  • Enhancing students’ personal development

  • Preparing each student for family living

  • Educating students for professional specialization

  • Equipping students to address needs which lead to well-being

 

Requirements for the B.S. Degree in Family and Consumer Sciences

A minimum of 120 credit hours are required to graduate with a B.S. degree in Family and Consumer Sciences.  These credits are distributed as follows:
