ELED 210 - Processes and Acquisition of Reading


3 Credits
Three hours per week.

This course will provide candidates with a theoretical foundation of the intricate processes involved in reading development. It will emphasize the response of the brain to children’s acquisition of language development and reading. Teacher Education candidates will demonstrate an understanding of the theories of the reading process and the structured components of the English language. The effects of phonological and phonemic awareness in young readers will be explored as well as the distinction between phonological/phonemic awareness and phonics. Candidates will also understand the role that fluency and vocabulary play in the construction of meaning in a variety of tests.

Prerequisite(s) EDUC 200  or concurrently with EDUC 200 .
