This course examines the emergence of Islam in the 7^th century, the role of the Prophet Muhammad, the construction of the Islamic empire and its contributions to world civilization. The course covers the modern period with a focus on the contemporary Islamic world and the challenges it faces particularly in the Middle East and Africa.
