CEGR 212 - Mechanics of Materials and Laboratory 3 credits 2 lecture hours. 3 lab hours.
Stress and strain for various types of loads - axial, shear, torsion and bending. Constitutive Laws. Multidimensional Hooke’s Law. Stress concentration. Introduction to Indeterminate analysis - Equilibrium vs. Compatibility. Combined stresses in 2D and 3D using Mohr’s Circle. Laboratory exercises to include tension, compression, bending and torsion. Concrete mix design and asphalt mix design. Elastic vs. plastic behavior of metals. Use of basic finite element software to investigate concepts of stress and deformation caused by external loads.
