ENGL 343 - African-American Poetry


3 credits
3 hours per week.

Beginning with study of early African-American poets, such as Jupiter Hammon and Phyllis Wheatley, this course continues through the present- day poets with particular emphasis given to the poets of the Harlem Renaissance and the Revolutionary Six- ties and the Black Aesthetics of the 1990’s. This course will examine the cultural, socio-political, and historical influences on the poetry.
