Advisement and Registration

Advisement is a critical component of a student’s successful matriculation at Morgan. It is how the Sociology Department maintains good communication with its majors and how Sociology majors can stay on track to graduate. Another vital component of advising is the informal dialogue between advisors and students about internships, career choices, study habits, time management, and other topics that fall outside of the curriculum sequence.

The name of a student’s advisor can be found at the top of the Degree Works audit.Students should schedule at least one meeting each semester with their advisor.  Until students have earned 24 credits and have a 2.0 GPA, their advisor is one of the college of Liberal Arts’ Retention Advisors.

Students will not be able to register without their registration alternate pin number, which changes each semester, and will be given to them during their advisement session.  This practice ensures that students plan their class schedule and register for classes with the help of an advisor.

College-wide Requirements:

In addition to meeting the requirements in General Education and in the major, students must also complete six (6) credits in the Liberal Arts Core required of all majors in the College of Liberal Arts. Options for satisfying this requirement are outlined in the catalog under the section on the College of Liberal Arts.  Also, in order to qualify for graduation,  students  must have taken two-thirds of their junior-and senior-level requirements in the major at Morgan (unless granted prior written permission by the Dean to take courses elsewhere); and must have earned a cumulative average of 2.0 or better and a major average of 2.0 or better, with no outstanding grades below “C” in the major (which includes all courses required for the major and required supporting courses)
