African American and African Diaspora Studies Minor


The Minor in African American and African Diaspora Studies is a rigorous interdisciplinary program open to all Morgan students regardless of their majors.  The minor is designed to strengthen, through the courses it offers, the global focus of Morgan State University’s curriculum, and to be complementary to the majors of participating departments.  It helps to prepare students and provide them with tools needed to meet the multifaceted challenges of the global twenty-first century from the unique and valuable perspective of African descended peoples around the world.

 

The African American and African Diaspora Studies program features a wide variety of electives drawn from all the disciplines in the College of Liberal Arts, and provides opportunities for students to engage in research, networking and intercultural activities.

 

The Minor would be of interest to students who wish to pursue a broad range of careers including:  law, government and politics, public health, education, communications and media, human resources, social work, international business management, human rights, community organizing, international development and diplomacy, library and information systems, environmental management, urban planning, criminology and law enforcement, music, theater and performing arts, architecture and historic preservation, and museum and arts management.  It is also of interest to those wishing to go to graduate school.

 

Students pursuing a minor in African American and African Diaspora Studies must complete the following 18 credit requirements.  The 12 elective credits must be chosen from no fewer than two disciplines.

*  Any courses at the 300 level or above related to African American and African Diaspora Studies offered at Morgan State University and approved by the College of Liberal Arts.
