The goals of the Musical Theatre program in the Department of Fine and Performing Arts are to enable students: (1.) to use their knowledge of and skills in music, dance and acting to prepare for auditions and performances. (2) to present theatrical repertoire representing a variety of genres with appropriate interpretive and technical proficiency as actors, singers and dancers and (3) develop an appreciation for the importance of musical theatre as it relates to the liberal arts.
The department offers a Bachelor of Fine Art (B.F.A) Degree in Musical Theatre
In addition to meeting the requirements in General Education and in the major, students must also complete six (6) credits in the Liberal Arts Core required of all majors in the College of Liberal Arts. Options for satisfying this requirement are outlined under the section on the College of Liberal Arts. Also, to qualify for graduation, students must pass the Senior Departmental Comprehensive Examination with a grade of 70 or higher, must have taken two-thirds of all of their junior and Senior level requirements in the major at Morgan (unless granted prior written permission by the Dean to take courses elsewhere); and must have earned a cumulative average of 2.0 or higher and a major average of 2.0 or higher, with no outstanding grades below “C” in the major (which includes all courses required for the major and required supporting courses).
