2022-2024 Undergraduate Catalog [ARCHIVED CATALOG]
Sustainable Urban Environmental Engineering, B.S.
|
|
The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering provides a program of study in the Sustainable Urban Environmental Engineering (SUEE), including planning, design, and management. Students will learn the core principles of sustainability and design sustainable urban environments and related tasks. Specialty topics of study offered include Water and Wastewater, Solid and Hazardous Waste, Air Pollution and Control, Hydraulics, thermodynamics, Surface or Subsurface Water Solute Transport and Pollution, etc.
|
Objectives
The Program Educational Objectives of the SUEE are to:
- Assume managerial and/or leadership roles in their chosen professional careers within six years of graduation (e.g., project managers, project engineers, etc.).
- Be employed and function well in the sustainable urban environmental engineering system and processes, and STEM related areas.
- Make contributions that advance the current state-of-the-practice in technology and/or research of civil engineering systems and processes; and
- Continue their professional development through continuous improvement and life-long learning (e.g., graduate school, professional engineering (PE) licensure, professional certifications, etc.).
Student Outcomes
The outcomes of the SUEE program are closely aligned with the guidelines of the ABET for accredited engineering programs. All graduates from the SUEE program will demonstrate:
- An ability to identify, formulate, and solve complex engineering problems by applying principles of engineering, science, and mathematics.
- An ability to apply engineering design to produce solutions that meet specified needs with consideration of public health, safety, and welfare, as well as global cultural, social environmental, and economic factors.
- An ability to communicate effectively with a range of audiences.
- An ability to recognize ethical and professional responsibilities in engineering situations and make informed judgments, which must consider the impact of engineering solutions in global, economic, environmental, and societal contexts.
- An ability to function effectively on a team whose members together provide leadership, create a collaborative and inclusive environment, establish goals, plan tasks, and meet objectives.
- An ability to develop and conduct appropriate experimentation, analyze and interpret data, and use engineering judgment to draw conclusions.
- An ability to acquire and apply new knowledge as needed, using appropriate learning strategies.
