Middle East and North African Studies Minor

The Minor in Middle East and North African Studies is a rigorous interdisciplinary program open to all Morgan students regardless of their majors. The MENA minor will provide students with the skills necessary to understand the complex issues of the Middle East and North Africa, including Arab and Muslim Culture, as well as that of others in the region.  The minor is designed to strengthen, through the courses it offers, the global focus of Morgan State University’s curriculum, and to be complementary to the majors of participating departments. It helps to prepare students and provide them with tools needed to meet the multifaceted challenges of the global twenty-first century through familiarization with the culture, history, and issues within the diverse region of the Middle East and North Africa.

The Middle East and North African Studies program features a wide variety of electives drawn from disciplines within the Colleges of Liberal Arts and Architecture, and provides opportunities for students to engage in research, networking and intercultural activities.

The minor would be of interest to students who wish to pursue a broad range of careers including: diplomacy, politics, economic development, architecture, urban planning, linguistics, and others, as well as to those planning to attend graduate school. 

Students pursuing a minor in Middle East and North African Studies must take MENA100, MENA400, and complete 12 credit requirements (to add up to 18 credits total) to be chosen from the below list, and the credits must be chosen from no fewer than three disciplines.

These credits must be twelve (12) credits chosen form the list below.  The credits chosen must be from no fewer than three (3) disciplines.
