Mission
The mission of the Bachelor of Science in Construction Management program is to educate students on basic construction management principles and practices, as well as their application to sustainable construction projects. With emphasis on green building technologies, materials and processes, the students will be well prepared to handle projects that require an integrated approach to environmental stewardship. The curriculum is challenging and extremely rewarding with emphasis on technical (i.e., architectural and engineering) content areas. Students will receive a solid base in the management basics required of the construction industry.
Program Overview
The Bachelor of Science in Construction Management (CMGT) Program develops students who understand the complexity of construction projects, appreciate the values of sustainable principles and their applications, and are able to manage people in the field site. The CMGT curriculum is guided by the accreditation standards and criteria of the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology/Applied and Natural Science Accreditation Commission.
At the end of the program of study, students will have a foundation of skills and knowledge in construction management, particularly in the areas of design and construction operations, construction planning, construction surveying, methods and materials, sustainability, estimating, planning, scheduling, supply chain and logistics, construction accounting and finance, construction law, project management, and safety procedures and practices. Through the guest speakers and internships, students are exposed to field application and industry professionals.
Policies
Change of Major
Students who wish to change their major to Construction Management must have a minimum 2.0 cumulative GPA and successfully completed ENGL 101 , PHYS 101 , and the mathematics requirement MATH 113 by the end of the semester in which the change of major request is made. Students should contact the Construction Management Department if their GPA is less than 2.0 to be considered upon review of the student’s academic plan developed by the School’s Retention Coordinator.
Excess Credits
Students interested in excess credits must have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0. The department will not approve excess credits for more than 21 credits per semester (FALL/SPRING). Students who do not meet the minimum requirements to request excess credits may appeal to the Department Chair.
Incomplete Grade
Incomplete “I” Grade requests are for extenuating circumstances only. Students must provide documentation when completing the Request for Incomplete Grade Form. The Chairperson and Dean will make final approval for incomplete requests.
Below is the University’s “I” Grade Policy
“Incomplete” (“I”) is given in exceptional cases to a student who has completed the majority of the work satisfactorily and due to documented illness or other documented emergencies beyond his/her control, he/she has been unable to complete the requirements for the course. The student must complete the work by the end of the next semester of enrollment. Otherwise, the “I” grade is changed to “F”.
The form to petition for an “I” is available online; The recording of the “I” grade must be approved by the Dean.
Procedures
Advisement
Students must schedule an appointment with their academic advisor to discuss course registration. At the advisement session, students will receive their alternate pin number for registration. Advisors will not provide an alternate pin without advisement.
Excess Credit Request
Students must complete the Excess Credit Form to request permission to register for more credits in a semester than currently allotted. The form requires the approval of the Chairperson and Dean.
Course Override Request
Students must complete the Override Request Form for “Prerequisite/Error” or “Capacity”. All override requests are subject to review.

Petition to Change Academic Catalog
Students can petition to change their academic catalog from when they entered the University. Students must complete and submit the Petition to Change Catalog Form for approval.
Course Substitutions
Students have the option of requesting a course substitution for a required course. Students must complete a Request for Course Substitution Form. If approved, it will be submitted to the Office of the Registrar for final approval.
Requirements for the B.S. Degree in Construction Management
- Students must complete all University, General Education, Supporting Course, and Core requirements.
- Students must satisfactorily earn a minimum of 74 credits in the major and minimum of 120 credits total
- Students must earn a cumulative average of 2.0 or better.
- Students must earn a 2.0 or better in their core and supporting courses with no outstanding grades below “C” (which includes all required Business and Management courses).
- Students must earn the final thirty (30) credits of their degree at Morgan State University.
A minimum of 120 credit hours are required to graduate with a B.S. in Construction Management. These credit hours are distributed as follows:
