Screenwriting and Animation Minor

The minor in Screenwriting and Animation (SWAN) requires 18 credit hours, nine of which must be 300 or 400-level courses. SWAN offers the following minors: (1) Screenwriting; (2) Computer Animation; (3) Cinematic Studies; (4) Film and Digital Storytelling. (1)  The Screenwriting minor emphasizes Film and Television Writing, including feature films, episodic series, documentaries, and corporate and non-broadcast client-driven media.  (2)  The Computer Animation minor is recommended for students more likely to meet the proficiency for animation and interactive media courses, including game design, as determined by faculty.  (3) The Cinematic Studies minor includes a combination of courses that emphasize the critical evaluation of cinema through research and film theory, and analysis.  (4)  The Film and Digital Storytelling minor combines writing and hands-on production and editing of documentaries, oral histories, memoirs, dramatic shorts, podcasts, corporate non-broadcast media, and immersive storytelling. 

SCREENWRITING 18 credits


The SWAN minor with a focus in Screenwriting requires students to complete a sequence of 18 credits with 9 credits in approved courses in Film and Television Writing from the Screenwriting and Animation major.

Required Courses


COMPUTER ANIMATION 18 credits


The SWAN minor with a focus in computer Animation is recommended for students who meet prerequisites as determined by faculty so they can move directly into animation courses and workshops.  The minor requires students to complete a sequence of 18 credits with 9 credits in approved courses in animation and interactive media from the Screenwriting and Animation major.

The SWAN minor with a focus in Cinematic Studies requires students to complete a sequence of 18 credits with 9 credits in approved courses in Film Studies from the Screenwriting and Animation major.

The SWAN minor with a focus in Film and Digital Storytelling requires students to complete a sequence of 18 credits with 9 credits in approved courses in Cinematic Storytelling from the Screenwriting and Animation major.
