SCOM 414 - Strategic Communication and Conflict

3 credits
3 hours per week.

This course explores the essential role of communication in shaping, managing and resolving conflict across interpersonal, group, organizational, national and global contexts.  Emphasizing the intersection of diversity and strategic communication, students examine how multicultural, multiethnic and multiracial dynamics influence conflict and collaboration in today’s organizations.  Through a blend of theoretical frameworks and applied strategies, students develop skills in negotiation, mediation, intercultural dialogue and collaborative conflict resolution.  Class projects and case studies help the uncover implicit and systemic dimensions of conflict and support the design of inclusive communication approaches that foster understanding, equity and organizational effectiveness.  This course prepares students to effectively navigate conflict and contribute meaningfully in complex, diverse communication environments.  [Formerly SPCH 414]  [Formerly SPCH 414].
